June 6 marked the 75th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy, one of the turning points of World War II. Backing up the brave men who stormed the beaches were P-51 Mustang airplanes; pilot Col. Bud Anderson says that he spent six continuous hours flying his Mustang that day to help the Allies make it past the breaches.

To honor Anderson and the brave people who helped keep America free, Ford is teaming with Roush Performance on the “Old Crow” Ford Mustang GT, which wears a paint scheme in keeping with those planes and boasting a Roush and Ford Performance supercharger that boosts output up past 700 horsepower.

“This year’s design is especially fitting for the 75-year commemoration of D-Day and the special place we reserve for heroes like Col. Anderson and countless others who demonstrated unparalleled valor and sacrifice,” said Craig Metros, Ford design director. “It’s an annual highlight for many on the Ford design team to pay homage to our war heroes by creating a custom tribute vehicle to support the next generation of aviators.”

The “Old Crow” Ford Mustang GT will be revealed in full sometime over the coming weeks ahead of it heading to the auction block. As is course, the one-off pony will be auctioned at this year’s iteration of “The Gathering” at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s 2019 AirVenture in Oshkosh, and all proceeds with benefit EAA’s Aviation Foundation. To date, Ford has raised more than $3.5 million for the Aviation Foundation with 11 unique vehicles; most recently, the 2018 Eagle Squadron Mustang earned a blazing $420K.

Making the “Old Crow” Ford Mustang GT all the more special is the fact that it boasts the signatures not just of Jack Roush, Edsel Ford II, and members of the Ford design team, but also of Col. Bud Anderson. A legitimate hero, Anderson earned more than 25 decorations in his illustrious career, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and Air Medal.
