Opel announced on Thursday that, just one year removed from its debut in Europe, Opel OnStar services will be rolled out into 18 new markets: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden. Opel is also adding Wi-Fi hotspot functionality to Austria, Czech Republic, France, Ireland, Portugal, and Romania; Opel OnStar’s Wi-Fi hotspot had previously only been offered in Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and the UK.

In the 14 months since launch, Opel OnStar has logged more than 5.5 million customer interactions via phone, app, website, or the OnStar service button located in Opel vehicles. This shakes out to approximately 880,000 calls, 830,000 vehicle diagnostic emails, 1 million logins at the Opel OnStar web portal, and 3.1 million app launches.

Having reached 1.5 million customer interactions through May, Opel OnStar has logged more than 4 million additional interactions in a seven-month span.

“The large number of interactions since the launch demonstrates how much customers appreciate the peace of mind and convenience that Opel OnStar adds to the driving experience,” said Opel CMO Tina Müller. “We are thrilled about bringing the benefits of our personal connectivity and service assistant to new customers in several countries all across Europe.”

Opel OnStar offers customers a number of services up to and including vehicle location and automatic crash response. Through OnStar, Opel owners can have their vehicles’ doors unlocked remotely, are given access to monthly vehicle diagnostic emails updating them on the health of their vehicles, and can send and receive directions for in-vehicle navigation.

Opel OnStar was awarded the “Connectivity Award 2016” from AutoBild Allrad and the award for road safety innovation from Ponle Freno.
