Here’s something that the folks at Mitsubishi’s American offices might like to roll around in their brains for a minute: The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have released figures that put the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in the position of the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the UK. Yes, that’s the same Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV that has already won two awards and continues to earn rave reviews from UK consumers. Indeed, it is the very same Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV that continues to leave American car buyers shivering in antici…
…pation.
“The new Outlander PHEV has quickly established its credentials,” says Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK. “We have reached a defining moment in vehicle drivetrain technology which challenges conventional wisdom. Few would have predicted that a family-sized 4 x 4 sports utility vehicle could become the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid based on economy, on and off road performance and practicality.”
In its short life in the United Kingdom, the Outlander PHEV has already earned the “Best Green Development” Award from BusinessCar in their annual Techie Awards and was named the “Best Alternative Fuel Vehicle for 2014” by DieselCar.
Thus far, Mitsubishi has already sold more than 33,000 Outlander PHEVs in Europe and Japan. At last check, it has been pushed back to a late 2015/early 2016 release date in the US in order to make adjustments necessary to comply with CAFE standards.
Time is money, Mitsubishi.
