The 2017 Fiat Abarth 124 Spider delighted the crowd when it was revealed

If Fiat enthusiasts weren’t already excited about the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider, they might be happy now because the Abarth version has finally premiered at the Geneva Motor Show.

The 2017 Fiat Abarth 124 Spider is powered by the same turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that can be found in the normal 124 Spider, which premiered at last year’s LA Auto Show, but the Abarth’s motor is good for 10 additional horsepower, thanks to a sport tuned exhaust. In addition, the new Abarth offers the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic Sequenziale Sportivo transmission.

The Abarth model further differentiates itself from the regular Spider due to its much lower weight of 2,336 pounds, which was made possible with the selection of very specific lightweight components. The Abarth’s lower curb weight, along with its more powerful turbo engine, allows the Fiat Abarth 124 Spider to reach a top speed of 143 mph and accelerate from 0-62 mph in only 6.8 seconds.

The exterior of the Abarth convertible features a Matte Black hood and trunk that are meant to reduce glare. Other notable exterior features include 17-inch alloy wheels, quad exhaust tips, and fender flares. Exterior color options include Isola d’Elba 1974 Blue, Turini 1975 White, San Marino 1972 Black, Costa Brava 1972 Red, and Portogallo 1974 Grey.

Every 2017 Fiat Abarth 124 Spider comes certified by an Abarth technician and comes with a specially numbered plaque.

The Abarth will come with a price tag of €40,000 in Europe. Fiat has yet to announce availability or pricing info for an American version, which could mean a more powerful and aggressive Abarth cabrio could be in the plans for the United States market.
