Redskins’ Running Back Alfred Morris Prefers His 1991 Mazda 626

Redskins Runningback Alfred Morris still loves his ’91 626.

If you have been disappointed by Alfred Morris’ fantasy production this season, this story from Jalopnik will return the Redskins’ starting running back to your good graces.  In an age where professional athletes try to one-up each other with extravagant purchases, Alfred Morris was just happy to get his 1991 Mazda 626 back from the shop.

Morris played his college football at Florida Atlantic, so he never felt the entitlement that comes from playing at a larger university, and that is where he first came into possession of the Mazda 626 that he affectionately (and ironically) calls “The Bentley.”

It was Morris’ pastor at the time who sold him “The Bentley” for a whopping $2.  Now, the 1991 Mazda 626 has undergone a complete restoration and is ready for Morris to get behind the wheel, but this 1991 sedan is more than just a car.

“This is my baby, man,” Morris said. “It’s more than just a car. I didn’t grow up with a lot. This helps me remember where I come from and where I’m going.”

The restoration process took four months and 275 hours, but “The Bentley” is finally back where it belongs, equipped with a rebuilt 2.2-liter engine, new hoses, gaskets, air conditioner, brakes, exhaust system, battery and alternator.

“I’m speechless,” Morris told the gathered crowd of reporters and Mazda employees. “It’s been a while, and I can’t wait to drive it.”
