Do you like the look of the third-generation Buick LaCrosse, but wish it was offered with a fuel-efficient hybrid drivetrain here in the United States? Well, it seems like you’re in luck because GM Authority recently reported that Buick will offer a hybrid variant of the LaCrosse sedan for the 2018 model year.

This new hybrid drivetrain will consist of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a parallel hybrid electric propulsion system, and a six-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to the front wheels. What’s more, this new hybrid system will only be offered with the Preferred, Essence, and Premium trim levels.

That means that the non-hybrid versions of the LaCrosse sedan will come standard with the 3.6-liter V6 engine that’s featured on the current model. However, the 2018 LaCrosse will be getting GM’s new nine-speed automatic transmission that made its debut with the 2017 Chevy Malibu. This new transmission replaces the eight-speed automatic that comes with the 2017 LaCrosse.

On top of its new hybrid drivetrain and nine-speed gearbox, the 2018 Buick LaCrosse will be offered with four new color options, while an additional four hues will be discontinued following the 2017 model year. The new color choices include Red Quartz Tintcoat, Satin Steel Metallic, Dark Slate Metallic, and Black Cherry Metallic. In contrast, the discontinued shades are Dark Forest Green Metallic, Crimson Red Tintcoat, Graphite Gray Metallic, and Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic.

Buick previously launched a LaCrosse Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) in China last August, but that vehicle is offered with a smaller 1.8-liter SIDI engine to go along with its lithium-ion battery unit. The Lacrosse Hybrid coming to the United States will feature the aforementioned 2.5-liter motor.

Buick has yet to announce pricing information for the 2018 LaCrosse sedan.
