It’s a common misconception that American automakers release their greatest innovations here in the States first. Sometimes, global automakers based in the United States might take their creativity to other markets first, especially if there is a bigger demand for it there. That’s what Shanghai OnStar has done with its new Weather Check and Reservation services.
The Weather Check and Reservation services for OnStar debuted at the 12th Guangzhou International Auto Show late this month. Both of these services operate using cloud computing services.
The Weather Check service does just what you’d expect. It gives up-to-date weather information, based on the driver’s location and destination.
The Reservation service is also pretty self-explanatory. It allows drivers to make reservations with hotels and to buy tickets in advance from airlines. Drivers can also use the service to make appointments with dealerships.
There is no word yet on whether OnStar here in the States will adopt these new services into its own lineup. GM Authority reached out to General Motors on this matter but has not yet received an answer.
