Currently, Super Cruise, Cadillac’s hands-free driving technology, is only available on the CT6 — which ends its production run in January of 2020. However, Super Cruise won’t be retiring with it. Rather, this innovative feature will find a new home on the brand-new Cadillac XT6. Cadillac hasn’t announced the timing of Super Cruise availability on the new model. However, when it arrives, it should cost an extra $5,000-6000 dollars to add to the XT6.

The future of Super Cruise

Super Cruise is among the most advanced semi-autonomous driving systems on the market, and Cadillac has big plans for its flagship technology. Cadillac president Steve Carlisle plans to integrate Super Cruise into every vehicle in the automaker’s lineup — and after the XT6 gets Super Cruise, the new CT5 sedan is next in line. However, the company intends to wait for major redesigns before integrating the technology into other models — so don’t hold your breath waiting for Super Cruise to become available on your personal favorite Cadillac model.

Capabilities and limitations

You can activate Super Cruise on divided, limited-access pre-approved highways. At launch, that included 130,000 miles of mapped roads in the United States and Canada. Currently, the automaker is in the process of adding another 70,000 miles of roads.

Although Super Cruise is designed for hands-free driving, it’s a good idea to keep your eyes on the road when Super Cruise is active. The system can steer, negotiate curves, center the vehicle in its lane, and keep pace with traffic you should still pay attention. It can’t stop for objects in its path, and the vehicle monitors your alertness with an infrared camera. If its alerts don’t get your eyes back on the road, Super Cruise will stop the car and hit the hazard lights.
