As the ultimate American luxury car brand and a symbol of sophistication and wealth, Cadillac has shown up in its fair share of country tunes over the years. Here are five of the best classic country songs inspired by Cadillac.

Johnny Cash, “One Piece at a Time”
This 1976 song by country icon Johnny Cash tells the story of a Cadillac assembly line worker’s clever scheme to smuggle an entire car out of the plant “one piece at a time” in his lunchbox. It … doesn’t quite work out the way he thought it would, and hilarity ensues.

David Allan Coe, “The Ride”
In this 1983 smash hit by David Allan Coe, a guitar-toting hitchhiker thumbs a ride in a Cadillac driven by the ghost of Hank Williams. Williams (who just so happened to die prematurely in the back of a Cadillac) has some career advice for the young musician: “Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside?/’Cause if you’re big star bound let me warn ya/It’s a long, hard ride.”

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, “Other Side of the Hill”
The rodeo circuit life isn’t an easy one, even if you’re “the cowboy in the Coupe de Ville.” The Cadillac-driving narrator of this 1985 song keeps plugging away, though — “Chug a lug up one side, glide down the other/I’m a lover of the other side of the hill.”

Dwight Yoakam, “Guitars, Cadillacs”
Featuring stinging electric guitars and down-home fiddling, Dwight Yoakam’s 1986 hit gets inside the mind of a country singer who makes it to the big city and finds pain and heartbreak there (and, apparently, enough money to buy a fancy car). “My guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music/Is the only thing that keeps me hanging on.”

The Judds, “Cadillac Red”
Confident, independent, and “full of high octane,” the red-headed subject of this 1989 song feels right at home behind the wheel of her Cadillac convertible. “Catch her if you can/She can outrun any man.”

His favorite activities are reading and listening to music, although he occasionally emerges from the heap of books and vinyl records in his basement to stand blinking in the sunlight. Once fully acclimated to the outside world again, he can be observed hanging out with his wife, attempting a new recipe in the kitchen, attending movies, walking the dog, or wandering into a local brewery to inquire about what’s on tap.
