The Toyota Prius Prime is getting numerous upgrades for the 2020 model year, following in the footsteps of the regular Prius, which was redesigned for 2019.
Claiming that “Prime” is a fitting name for the car, as it is “the most technologically advanced, best-equipped Toyota Prius in the model’s nearly two-decade global history,” Toyota found room for a lot of upgrades, including a few that it had been reluctant to include before.
New for 2020, the Toyota Prius Prime will be equipped with standard Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM Radio compatibility. It will boast a new sun visor extender, new and easier-to-use seat heater buttons, black (instead of white) interior accents, two new rear 2.1A USB ports, and a new fifth seat for greater room.
Toyota also revamped the trim nomenclature. The Prius Prime will now be offered as an LE, XLE, or Limited model instead of Plus, Premium, and Advanced. This matches other Toyota vehicles. The LE will start at $27,600, the XLE at $29,500, and the Limited at $33,500. This represents a base starting price of only $250 more than the 2019 Toyota Prius Prime Plus.
The Prius Prime is not only the most technology advanced Prius but also the most efficient. Its EPA-estimated total driving range is 640 miles, including an EV Mode20 driving range of 25 miles. And when the battery runs out of juice and the engine needs to kick in again, the Prius Prime still nets you about 54 miles per gallon combined.
