Toyota has announced it will be rolling out the second generation of its Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite of active safety technologies beginning in mid-2018. Like the first-generation TSS, it will be offered as standard equipment in specific Toyota vehicles before being disseminated across the automaker’s lineup.
The updated suite will feature new technologies designed to enhance drivers’ situation awareness and provide additional protection for pedestrians or bicyclists in front of the vehicle. You can read more about the new or updated features below.
- Road Sign Assist (new) — Road sign information is displayed on the dashboard meter or Head-Up Display.
- Lane Tracing Assist (new) — Steering support helps the driver stay in lane when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is active.
- Pre-Collision System (updated) — Gained “enhanced deceleration capabilities,” can detect bicyclists, and can detect pedestrians even at night.
- Lane Departure Alert (updated) — Gained “road edge detection” to better help drivers stay in their lane.
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (updated) — Features improved acceleration and deceleration performance across a wide range of speeds, and better forward recognition.
