Toyota Sequoia Gets Rugged TRD Pro Treatment

Toyota Canada is welcoming the new Sequoia TRD Pro to its lineup of rugged off-road vehicles. With this new addition, Canadians now have five options for the full-size SUV that focus on a variety of different comfort, space, performance, power and other features.

Already a capable SUV, the Toyota Sequoia becomes virtually unstoppable with TRD Pro equipment. The package comes with 2.5-inch Fox internal bypass shocks, a power back door, a tube-style roof rack and 18-inch forged alloy wheels.

Visual enhancements include a “TOYOTA” heritage grille design, fog lamps by Rigid Industries, a TRD shift knob, and exclusive TRD Pro carpet mats. And to sweeten the deal, Toyota also threw in a 14-speaker audio system by JBL and its suite of Toyota Connected Services, which comes with remote features and built-in navigation.

Even without the TRD Pro treatment, the Sequoia is already very powerful. It boasts a 5.7-liter V8 engine rated at 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, which can easily tow up to 7,100 pounds. A one-touch 4WD system and six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift mode gives you a lot of control over difficult terrain.

Extra Rugged: These are Toyota’s most capable trucks

Even better, every Sequoia is factory-fitted with a towing package that includes a heavy-duty tow hitch receiver, 4 and 7 pin connectors, an extra transmission cooler, and a transmission fluid temperature gauge.

If the TRD Pro edition is a little too expensive for your taste, you still have the option to upgrade to TRD Sport instead, which also enhances off-road performance, but at a more affordable price point. Both the TRD Sport and the TRD Pro are based on the Sequoia SR5 trim level.

“When you want to make a powerful statement, there’s nothing like the Toyota Sequoia and we’re pleased to add TRD Pro capabilities — already offered on the 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra — to the Sequoia for the 2020 model year,” said Cyril Dimitris, VP of Toyota Canada. “Every Sequoia delivers impressive towing capability, superb comfort and is ready to face challenging off-road terrain head on.”
