Transportation can often be an issue for medical appointments. If someone is too sick to drive or simply doesn’t have a car to take them to the doctor, it’s possible that they can miss or need to cancel an appointment. Relatient, a health care communications company, has discovered that about 3.6 million people in the United States can’t access health care because they don’t have transportation—but that’s about to change.

A new partnership between Relatient and Uber integrates the Uber app in all text and email messages Relatient sends to patients, reminding patients that they can always call Uber if they need help getting to a doctor’s appointment.

“Patients who miss medical appointments or have to reschedule at the last minute frequently cite transportation as a factor,” said Rob Daniel, Uber product partnerships lead. “We’re very excited about the collaboration with Relatient because it will give people a simple way to plan their appointments and ensure they always have access to a reliable ride when they need one.”

Relatient’s services include sending appointment reminders, follow-up care scheduling, information about payment balances, and preventative care prompts. Now, each of these messages will include an Uber app link, too.

To kick off this new partnership, Uber and Relatient are sponsoring the Ride to Health Week from August 22 to August 26. This week will give patients who ride Uber to or from an appointment a discount on the ride, helping keep people across the United States healthier.
