The 328i comes with a slightly more powerful version of the 320’s four-cylinder engine, pushing out 240 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. As you might expect by the 328d model’s “d” designation, it comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder which gets the same 180 hp but a more robust 280 lb-ft of torque.
Consumers that want supreme power should look no further than the 335i sedan, which comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, rated at 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Those consumers interested in going green—but not losing a lot of power—should look at the ActiveHybrid 3 model. This hybrid luxury sport sedan pairs the 335i’s powerful six-cylinder engine with a rear-drive electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack, generating a total of 335 hp and 330 lb-ft.

Fuel efficiency throughout the BMW 3 Series lineup is superb with the 320i earning an impressive 28 mile per gallon combined, the 328i earning 27 mpg combined, and the 328d earning 37 mpg combined. The 335i has an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined rating, while the ActiveHybrid 3 model has an estimated 28 mpg combined.
