Victoria Police Receive 290 Colorado-Based Holden Vans; Deployment Underway in February

Victoria Police Holden Van Based on Colorado

Holden announced this month that it will be supplying 290 two- and four-door divisional vans, based on the Holden Colorado, to the Victoria Police. These vans will be put into service by Victoria Police over the next two years as part of a fleet upgrade.

The bulk of the vans—250 units—will be two-door vans based on the Colorado 4×2 used largely for city purposes. For situations where the Victoria Police might need to go off-road, Holden is also supplying 40 4×4, four-door vans with bull bars and winches. The first of the 4x2s are being deployed this month, and the 4x4s are expected to report for duty by the middle of the year.

What’s in a Name? The meaning behind the names in GMC’s lineup

“Holden’s Australian engineers have worked collaboratively with Victoria Police to create a vehicle that is not only designed specifically for Australian conditions but is the safest vehicle possible to protect their frontline members,” said Holden Executive Director of Sales Michael Filazzola. “The Holden Colorado offers Victoria Police the leading safety and performance attributes needed for modern policing.”

The divisional vans have earned a five-star rating in the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) thanks to features including six passenger-compartment airbags, stability control, and ABS brakes. The rear pod of the vans acts as a two-person transport module, and each features a 360-degree camera for passenger monitoring.

“This announcement continues Holden’s long association with Victoria Police, which began over 70 years ago, and we are honored to be able to continue this partnership,” added Filazzola. “We’re excited to see the new ‘divvy vans’ out on the road and we’re sure Victorian police officers will enjoy driving them.”
