There wasn’t much scary about Volvo Cars October sales. The automaker posted its 16th straight month of retail sales increases by posting big increases in China and Sweden and staying in the black in the United States. All told, Volvo sales in October were up 12.6% year-over-year with 40,680 units sold around the globe.
Sales of Volvo Cars in China were up double digits once again with sales of 6,917 units, a 36% year-over-year increase. To date, Volvo has been absolutely rolling in the Chinese marketplace, piling up 65,827 sales over the course of 10 months, which marks a 35.8% year-to-date improvement in sales.
Volvo also continues to excel in its home country of Sweden, where it moved 6,609 units in October for a 30% year-over-year gain. Through October, Volvo has increased sales in the motherland by 19.2% with total sales of 49,374 vehicles.
While the majority of 2014 has been a struggle for Volvo in the United States, October proved to be more treat than trick with a 1.4% year-over-year gain (3,972 vehicles sold). Volvo is still down 8.2% to date in America, but it has been more than making up for this dip with its continued success not only in China and Sweden, but in the other Western European markets, which were up 12.1% cumulatively in October.
“It’s very encouraging to see that all of our top five markets reported growth for the month which is a clear sign of a strong product offer,” says Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. “I’m also looking forward to see the reactions on what we will reveal at the upcoming motor shows in Los Angeles and Guangzhou this month.”
