Volvo XC60 History
The Volvo XC60 is a compact crossover SUV and is based on the Volvo Y20 platform. The XC60 was introduced in 2008 and has been Volvo’s best-selling car since 2009.
The XC60 was unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, and then went on sales in North America in early 2009 as a 2010 model year. The XC60 shares technology with the 2007 Land Rover Freelander.
Since it was introduced, the XC60 has been praised for its safety features and consistently high ratings, including the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ award.
The XC60 received a mostly cosmetic facelift for the 2014 model year, including changes to the grille and front driving lights, small changes to the exhaust tips and taillights, and removal of black cladding along the lower doorsills. Inside, new materials and trims were used, a 7-inch touchscreen display has been added, and a paddle shift is now available on the T6 model.
The Volvo XC60 played a prominent role in The Twilight Saga: New Moon as lead character Edward Cullen’s car. Volvo used the film to promote the XC60, including a contest to give away models identical to the one Edward Cullen drove.
