Chevy’s New Low Cab Forward 6500XD Truck Coming this Year
General Motors made headlines recently when it announced that it agreed to sell both Opel and Vauxhall to PSA Group, thus signaling its move away from the European market in order to increase profits. Now, the American automaker is looking to develop its more profitable lineup of commercial vehicles by announcing the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Low Cab Forward 6500XD, which is expected to become available prior to the end of this year.

The Chevy Low Cab Forward 6500XD will be built using a highly flexible platform that GM is offering in eight unique wheelbases and with bodies that are as long as 30 feet. In addition, the 6500XD will come equipped with a 5.2-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 520 lb-ft of torque. This powerful engine works with an Allison 2500 Series six-speed automatic transmission and will provide the 6500XD with a gross vehicle weight rating of 25,950 pounds.
“Our goal is to offer the best work solutions and customer care in the business,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. “Our Low Cab Forward dealers and Upfitter Integration Group will work hand-in-hand with customers and their upfitters to spec the right truck for the job. After the sale, our dealers will be there to support customers with extended service hours and work-ready loaners.”
General Motors will be showing the 2018 Chevrolet Low Cab Forward 6500XD at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis from March 15-17.
The new Class 6 truck will join Chevy’s Class 3, 4, and 5 trucks, which were already part of the company’s commercial vehicle lineup.
