National Corvette Museum Hosting Car-Themed Art Show
Beginning tomorrow, the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, will open up a new temporary display that’s a little bit outside of their comfort zone: an art show.
Presented by NCM and Michelin, the Car Part Art exhibit will run from September 18, 2015, to January 8, 2016. As the name implies, this exhibit won’t feature your usual mix of watercolors and oils; rather, all of the artworks on display will be created from recycled auto parts.
That means old hoods and hubcaps are used as canvases for creative paintings, and rusty exhaust pipes and gears become the building blocks of unique sculptures—like this bald eagle created by students at Ohio County Middle School:
Under the direction of guest curator Andrea D. Rudloff, the Car Part Art exhibit will feature a variety of pieces that have been submitted by a wide range of artists, including students from nearby schools. Michelin will also be sponsoring a selection of tire-based artworks from their “InTIREnational Art Competition” (yeesh).
The display is located in the museum’s Exhibit Hall, and entry is included in the cost of regular admission. Online voting for the People’s Choice Award begins tomorrow. To vote, or find more information, visit carpartart.org.
