Swiss Racer Simona de Silvestro Joins Nissan Motorsport
Nissan Motorsport is looking to improve its performance on the Australian Supercars circuit, so the brand has brought a new racer onto the team. Simona de Silvestro of Sweden will get behind the wheel of a Nissan vehicle starting in the 2017 Clipsal 500. Ms. de Silvestro signed a multi-year contract to help the Nissan team succeed in Australia’s Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

If the name sounds familiar to you, that is because de Silvestro has a lot of racing experience under her belt. She has competed in races for Formula 1, Formula E electric car racing, and IndyCar, and she also has experience working with team co-owner Todd Kelly after she joined the Harvey Norman Supergirls Bathurst event as a wildcard entry.
“This is a big day for Nissan Motorsport,” said Kelly. “Simona’s performance at Bathurst this year was outstanding. You could see in the data the amount of potential in Simona. So next year will be very exciting. To have built a race team that can attract a driver of Simona’s international experience is a testament to the hard work of everyone here at Nissan Motorsport.”

Before this announcement, de Silvestro was unsure about where she would be racing this year. She is reportedly excited to be working with a team supported by a manufacturer. After her racing experience with Nissan at Bathurst, she has a feel for what is ahead in 2017 and can’t wait to get started. We wish her all luck on the Australian track next summer.
