For the 2014 model year, the exterior of the Equinox is all about attractive aerodynamics. Flowing lines and sculpted contours come together to please the eye, while increasing the fuel economy of the SUV. Stylish chrome accents enhance the appeal of the 2014 Equinox, while also showing that the SUV isn’t only versatile, but also completely capable of making the neighbors jealous.

When it comes to the 2014 Equinox’s powertrain, there are two different options—the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque or an available 3.6-liter V6 that almost doubles the horsepower of the 2.4-liter with 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. No matter the engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive are standard, with an optional all-wheel-drive system.

For the 2.4-liter four-cylinder, EPA-estimated fuel economy is 26 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 23 combined with all-wheel drive. The 3.6-liter comes in at 20 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 19 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.

Quality materials, a dual-cowl design, and an available two-tone color scheme come together within the cabin to create a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing interior. The touchscreen interface, which is available on the 1LT trim level and above, incorporates the MyLink system, which allows for Bluetooth streaming audio capability. There is plenty of legroom throughout the cabin, regardless of where you’re sitting, though this legroom comes at the expense of a smaller cargo space.

The 2014 Equinox received four out of five stars in government crash tests, while also earning the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick ranking. Standard equipment for the SUV includes antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front seat side-impact airbags, and side curtain airbags. The OnStar telematics system is also standard, which includes a plethora of driver assistance programs like automatic crash notification, an emergency assistance button, and remote door unlock. A rearview camera comes standard on all trim levels with the exception of the LS. The LTZ has standard rear parking sensors and frontal collision and lane departure warning systems, while the 2LT has those technologies as options.
