2015 Ram 1500 Production Will Be 20% EcoDiesel
When paired with the 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine, the 2015 Ram 1500 is the most fuel-efficient pickup truck in America. It’s no surprise then that Ram Truck will be boosting the EcoDiesel to a whopping 20% of total 2015 Ram 1500 production. Initially, the EcoDiesel was anticipated to claim just 10% of total 2015 Ram 1500 production.
The EcoDiesel engine yields an impressive 28 mpg yet still manages to lay down 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

“Innovation sometimes comes with risk, but being first to market with a diesel engine for the half-ton segment has shown to be a great decision for the Ram Brand,” remarked Bob Hegbloom, President and CEO, Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is a game-changer in the industry, and has proved to be a key to conquest sales over our competitors.”
In fact, that Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is such a game-changer that nearly 60% of its total sales are conquest sales, meaning buyers are defecting from other brands. A number so high in such a loyal market is generally unheard of. When orders initially opened for the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, Ram Truck saw more than 8,000 requests appear within just three days and had to close ordering for the initial allocation.
It shouldn’t come as a shock that the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has become such a conquest vehicle. It is the only light-duty diesel powertrain on the market. Perhaps this should be a wakeup call to competitors such as Ford and GM to jump on the diesel bandwagon.
But will they wake up? Only time will tell.
