Does This Code Mean There Will Be a 2015 Shelby GT500?
Despite being oh-so-close to the street date for the next-gen ‘Stang, there hasn’t been much in the way of definitive information as to whether we’ll be seeing a 2015 Shelby GT500 or not. Of some possible interest to those seeking answers is the fact that Ford tops a Google search for the 2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 with a page that portends a next-gen “Cobra of Performance Cars.”
Clicking the link for either the Shelby GT500 or the GT500 Convertible takes you to the model page for the base fastback model, but there’s some interesting tidbits in the source text:
Apart from the changes to the model year, all of this information seems to be carried over from the 2014 model. Is any of this strong enough in and of itself to suggest that Mustang is going to spring a 2015 Shelby GT500 on us? Not by a long shot, but it’s reason enough to dream.
Prototypes for some variation of the next-gen Mustang have been seen testing everywhere from the ‘Ring to the real world, but there isn’t any sort of indication what model year this vehicle will carry or what it will even be called when it’s released upon the world. Is it a 2015? A 2016? 2017? For that matter, will it be a GT500 or a GT350? Will it be an SVT?
Frankly, we don’t care if they call it the 2020 Mustang George Costanza as long as it gets more than 600 horsepower and they just get it to us with some degree of quickness. Actually, now that we think about it, the 2020 Mustang George Costanza does have pretty nice ring to it.
