2015 Sonata Eco Yields 32 MPG Combined
The all-new 2015 Sonata Eco
Yesterday, Hyundai announced the third and latest powertrain that will be available for the 2015 Hyundai Sonata: a 1.6-liter turbocharged Gamma four-cylinder engine for the Sonata Eco. Reportedly, the 2015 Sonata Eco is estimated at 32 mpg combined and will go into production later this summer in Alabama. Hyundai says that the 2015 Sonata Eco will start at just $23,275, but that doesn’t include the $810 freight charge.
“Sonata Eco enhances the sophisticated design and confidence-inspiring driving dynamics of the 2015 Sonata with even more impressive fuel economy,” said John Shon, manager, product planning. “This innovative powertrain improves fuel efficiency without sacrificing the driving experience.”

The 1.6-liter engine for the 2015 Sonata Eco produces an estimated 177 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and will be mated to Hyundai’s first seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the Sonata Eco will claim 32 mpg combined, it actually gets up to 38 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg in the city.
Standard on the 2015 Sonata Eco are all the features from the SE model, as well as automatic headlights, a Blue Link® telematics system, a chrome grille, chrome interior door handles, a rearview backup camera, side mirror-mounted turn signals, stitching on the instrument cluster hood, 5-inch color touchscreen audio, and a 10-way power driver seat with lumbar support.

Drivers can also opt for a $4,100 Technology Package with plenty of extra goodies, to include a Blind Spot Detection System with Rear-Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist; chrome exterior door handles with welcome light; Hands-Free Smart Trunk Auto Open; proximity key entry (including push-button start); leather for the seating surfaces, steering wheel, and shift knob; heated front seats; dual automatic temperature control; a 4.2-inch color LCD Multi-Info Display; 8-inch navigation system with an array of technology, including Eyes Free Siri integration and HD Radio Technology; Dimension premium audio; SiriusXM Travel Link® with a 3-month subscription; an auto-dimming mirror with HomeLink and compass; and auto up/down front passenger window.
