Takhini Hot Springs, Whitehorse, Yukon
Need a little time to rest and recover? Unwind at the Takhini Hot Springs in Whitehorse, Yukon. The spring’s mineral-rich water contains calcium, magnesium, and iron, giving the water a reddish color. And unlike many natural hot springs, these pools won’t stink up your spa day with the sulfurous smell of rotten eggs.
If you can’t make it to Whitehorse for a soothing soak before winter sets in, don’t fret — the springs are open year-round. Takhini Hot Spring even hosts a wintertime Hair Freezing Contest, where participants see how creatively they can shape their frosty locks.
Spirit Sands – Spruce Woods Provincial Park, Manitoba
You may not associate shifting sand dunes with Canada, but you’ll find them in Manitoba’s Spruce Woods Provincial Park. This rolling landscape offers stunning views of spring-fed oases and lush forests. The park even plays host to a wide variety of unique flora and fauna. Here, you’ll find cacti, the western hognose snake, and the northern prairie skink, which holds the honor of being the province’s only lizard species.
And if you’re a fan of both nature and luxury, Spruce Woods Provincial Park is the getaway for you. It offers modern campgrounds, shower facilities, an on-site laundromat, a gift shop, a concession stand, a toboggan hill, and an amphitheater. You can also explore the park through hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
Bottle House, Prince Edward Island
We all know that recycling can be wonderful for the environment, but on Prince Edward Island, you can experience the beauty of recycling firsthand. At the Bottle House and the surrounding Bottle Village, you can see how hobbyist Edouard T. Arsenault repurposed 25,000 glass bottles to create a trio of stunning buildings. The bottles vary in shape, size, and color, letting in light and creating an attractive mosaic-like effect.
Once you’re done touring the Bottle Village, check out the rest of Prince Edward Island. This gorgeous destination offers pristine beaches, fresh seafood, and plenty of scenic drives.
