American Visionary Art Museum

If you’ve ever wandered the exhibits of a professional art gallery or national art museum, you might have left feeling depressed at your own lack of talent with a brush or pencil. This unique venue in Baltimore is a refreshing departure from conventional art museums. Exhibits feature unique art pieces from self-taught amateurs.

The Mushroom House

If you’re a fan of the Smurfs —  or mushrooms — head to Bethesda to experience The Mushroom House. The Garfinkles purchased the house back in 1967 and coated the interior and exterior surfaces with polyurethane foam to give it its present-day appearance. Though it’s had multiple owners since then, this building continues to fascinate both locals and out-of-towners.

Papermoon Diner

Grab some tasty grub while feasting on bold colors and quirky decor at Papermoon Diner in Baltimore. From mannequins to doll heads to Pez dispensers and other paraphernalia, this restaurant is a rewarding stop to enhance any road trip.

Decoy Museum

The Decoy Museum in Havre De Grace is worth a detour on your travels, especially if you’re a fan of duck hunting and/or wood-carving. The exhibits celebrate the Chesapeake Bay’s special role in the history of waterfowling and decoy-making.
