Volkswagen Unveils New American SUV
This week, Volkswagen unveiled its latest model, and it truly is all-American. The VW Atlas is the largest SUV the automaker has ever built in America, and it is certainly a step up from what we normally expect from the German brand. Besides being built in Chattanooga, VW chose to host the vehicle’s big coming out party at California’s Santa Monica Pier, the end point of historic Route 66. All of this clearly makes the statement that VW is here to stay, and ready to provide what American drivers want to buy.
This new SUV is being branded as a part of the 2018 model year, and will reportedly be available with five trim levels and two engine options. There will be seats for seven passengers, and VW says that the SUV is built so that two adults can share the back row without feeling cramped. Select trims will also be equipped with Volkswagen Car Net® service, which features apps to connect the vehicle with the outside world and a user’s smartphone.
This SUV will be relatively affordable, and VW is touting its available safety features, like Autonomous Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control, which normally appear on more premium vehicles. The VW Atlas will also be the only vehicle in its class to offer the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System to help keep occupants as safe as possible if a collision occurs.
We don’t have too long to wait for more specifics for this vehicle, as VW hopes to have it in dealerships in Spring 2017. Hopefully America’s roads are ready for this vehicle, as we foresee it being very popular on road trips.
