General Motors Sales December 2017

General Motors finished out 2017 as Canada’s top automaker in terms of retail sales, with deliveries up 15.2% from 2016 at a total of 232,057 vehicles. Total sales for the automaker were also up considerably, rising 13.3% from 2016’s final tally of 267,341 vehicles to a total of 302,826 vehicles.

GM achieved this with a strong December performance—sales were up 9.2% overall with 19,801 vehicles delivered, and the Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC brands all delivered year-over-year growth. Retail sales totaled 14,568 vehicles, and fleet deliveries totaled 5,233 vehicles.

“With our strength in SUVs, pickups, and EVs, GM Canada and our dealers have aligned with what Canadians want to drive,” said John Roth, vice president, sales, service and marketing. “We built momentum steadily throughout 2017, and our December results are signaling our intention to keep our brands at the front of the pack.”

Chevrolet ended 2017 with a total of 171,005 vehicles sold, up 12.9% from 2016. Chevy not only wrapped up the year with its best December for retail sales and retail truck sales since 2011, but it posted its best year at retail in a decade and its best year for trucks at retail in 20 years.

GMC’s sales were up 17.5% in 2017 at 99,508 vehicles delivered. This marked GMC’s best retail year in Canada ever, guided by retail gains for all of its trucks and SUVs.

Buick’s total sales were down just 0.37% in 2017, but its retail sales were the highest for the brand since 2003. 2017 also marked Buicks’ best year at retail for SUVs in history.

Cadillac finished the year up 9.6% in Canada at 13,330 vehicles delivered. This was also the brand’s best year at retail and best year for SUVs at retail in history.
