[PHOTOS] 2015 Hyundai Sonata Unleashed at NYIAS
The seventh-gen Sonata grows up and gets stronger. Must have been eating its vegetables.
Today at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Hyundai unveiled the next step in the evolution of their Sonata. The seventh-generation 2015 Hyundai Sonata boasts Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, an enhanced ride, more rigid constitution, and the brand’s latest safety and convenience features.

The 2015 Hyundai Sonata will wear crisper lines amid its smooth surfaces for a more distinctive and markedly mature look. It will feature a wider air intake in the front fascia, standard LED daytime running lights, 16” alloy wheels, a rear lip spoiler, and rocker panel extensions and dual exhaust exclusive for the Limited trim. The Sonata Sport will get an even more aggressive front grille and bumper, side rocker extensions, and side chrome molding.
“We crafted the shape of the 2015 Sonata in the same way an award-winning chef refines his recipe over the years,” said Chris Chapman, chief designer, Hyundai Design North America, in a press release. “With the 2011 Sonata, Hyundai took the mid-size sedan from a meal to a gourmet dinner. The evolution to Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’s more taut, modern lines reflect the improvements in refinement and driving dynamics for 2015.”

On the inside, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata will sport a premium, ergonomically-inclined environment with an intuitive center stack. The Sonata’s ride will also be smoother and quieter thanks to reduced bulkhead apertures and more prevalent use of sound-eliminating materials in the dash.
As for strength, the 2015 Sonata will use high-strength steel in more than 50 percent of its composition, which will result in 41 percent stiffer torsional rigidity and 35 percent better bending strength and up to a 10 percent reduction in frame weight.
The 2015 Sonata will have an all-four-cylinder lineup, with the 2.4-liter Theta II GDI in the SEO, Limited, and Sport models; and a 2.0-liter Theta II turbo GDI in the Sport 2.0T models. The 2.4-liter generates 185 horsepower while the 2.0-liter creates a beastly 245 horses.
Standard safety features in the 2015 Sonata include a new driver’s knee airbag, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, ABS, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Available safety features include Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a Lane Departure Warning System.

The seventh-gen Sonata will get the next-gen Blue Link system, a new Hyundai Assurance Car Care in-vehicle app, and it will eventually get Apple CarPlay later on in 2014.
How are you liking the new look of the Sonata? Is it enough to convince you to upgrade when it goes on sale later this year?
