The 2013 Ford Edge sees a few minor changes with shuffled features and the addition of an all-wheel-drive option on the base SE trim level.

In the competitive crossover SUV segment, its important to put forth your best foot in order to impress consumers. The 2013 Ford Edge does just that with soft lines and a curvaceous body that creates a modern silhouette. A prominent chrome grille adds to this modern feel, highlighting the Edge’s blunt nose and cat-eye-like headlights.

Depending on the Edge model you choose, there are three different engines available. A 3.5-liter V6 is the standard power source, producing 285 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. Standard with this engine is a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive, though all-wheel-drive is an option.
For all models but the Ford Edge Sport, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine is optional, generating 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. This option is only available with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel-drive, though.
The final option comes with the Ford Edge Sport. This is a 3.7-liter V6 that produces the most power with 305 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel-drive is an available option, though the crossover comes standard with front-wheel-drive and an automatic six-speed transmission with shift paddles.

According to the EPA, the standard 3.5-liter engine Edge models are rated at 22 mpg combined for front-wheel-drive and 21 with AWD. The optional turbocharged engine is rated at the best 24 mpg combined, while the Sport’s engine is rated at 22 mpg combined with front-wheel-drive and 19 combined with all-wheel-drive.

To match its modern-style exterior, the 2013 Edge has a decidedly contemporary look with harsh lines and logically places gauges and controls. Those models with MyFord Touch will see an interface that uses three display screens to control audio, phone, and navigation functions, whether its with your voice, touch controls, or steering wheel buttons. The third-row seat offers some of the most room in a crossover, making it one of the best fits for large families or those looking to haul a lot of cargo.

Government crash tests gave the 2013 Ford Edge an overall rating of four out of five stars, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Edge its highest score of “Good” in frontal-offset, side-impact, and roof strength tests.
