NASCAR Ford Mustang Gets First Taste of Victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Well, that didn’t take long.
Two races into its Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career, the Ford Mustang has its first win under its belt. Brad Keselowski piloted the No. 2 Autotrader Ford Mustang to Victory Lane, winning the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway despite battling the effects of stomach flu.

Keselowski just edged out Martin Truex Jr., finishing .218 seconds ahead of the second-place car and third-place finisher Kurt Busch. Kevin Harvick finished fourth in the No. 4 Busch Beer Ford Mustang and Clint Bowyer finished fifth in the No. 14 Haas Automation Ford Mustang, rounding out the top five.
The win is the 60th of Keselowski’s career as part of Team Penske, making him the winningest driver in team history.
“This day is — wow, I don’t even know how to put it in words,” Keselowski said after the race. “I’m just excited for this team, first race with the new rules or whatever they’re called now, and to be able to win it, that’s really special as well, and I know everybody here is excited about that, and just a great day overall for Team Penske and our Ford Mustang.”
The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 marked yet another impressive performance for the new Ford NASCAR Mustang. Not only did three ‘Stangs finish in the top five, but Aric Almirola finished in eighth place and Daniel Suarez finished 10th. Six more Mustangs placed in the top 25 — Ryan Newman finished 13th, Paul Menard finished 14th, David Ragan finished 16th, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished 18th, Ryan Blaney finished 22nd, and Joey Logano — who finished fourth at the Daytona 500 — finished 23rd.
