When the groundbreaking Lexus 300 debuted in 1998, it pioneered the midsize CUV segment. Now, the 2020 Lexus RX is leading the way again, thanks to a slew of new features and enhancements on this already-impressive vehicle.

Quality craftsmanship

Robert Tsang, director of Lexus in Canada, is appropriately proud of the newly revealed driving machine. “With the new 2020 Lexus RX, we’ve taken a practically perfect luxury SUV made right here in Canada and enhanced it where it counts,” he remarked. Tsang also expressed that Lexus is continuing to fine-tune the details that have helped the RX earn its spot as the automaker’s best-selling model.

Those luxurious details are handcrafted by artisans who train their manual dexterity for a minimum of six months before ever touching the leather trim on a Lexus.

Standard and available features

The 2020 Lexus RX will be available in five different models: RX 350, RX 350L, the RX 450h and RX 450hL hybrids, and the performance-oriented RX 350 F Sport.

In terms of powertrains and performance, the RX 350 and RX 350L both come standard with a 3.5-litre, direct injection V6, which delivers 296 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. If you opt for the hybrid models, you’ll find a 3.5-litre V6 under the hood. It’s paired with a continuously variable transmission and a couple of high-torque electric motors. Together, they produce 308 horsepower.

For the 2020 model year, all models will boast standard paddle shifters and the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 suite of driver-assist technology. LSS+ 2.0 includes handy features like daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, and Lane Tracing Assist. Android users will also be able to join the fun, thanks to the fact that Lexus added Android Auto support to the lineup.

The RX F Sport will offer performance-enhancing options like a cold air intake, electric power steering, sport steering, alongside comfort features like a heated steering wheel.

The RX 350 and RX 350 F Sport will be built at the Cambridge, Ontario plant. Production will begin in late August, and the vehicles should arrive in dealerships by fall.
