Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto (old and new Spock) share the screen in this delightful 2013 Audi ad
The late, great Leonard Nimoy has passed away at the age of 83. As an actor, he leaves behind a poignant and often humorous body of work that spans over six decades, and encompasses everything from the original Twilight Zone and Star Trek series to The Simpsons and Futurama… and a couple of really great car commercials.
Although his final automobile ad was this German Volkswagen spot from last year, his best was this 2013 Audi ad (below), which playfully pits him against Zachary Quinto (the actor who played Nimoy’s Mr. Spock character in the recent Star Trek films).

The point of the ad, entitled “The Challenge,” is that Quinto’s Audi S7 is far superior to Nimoy’s sluggish Mercedes-Benz CLS 550—but even though he loses the race, it’s ultimately the “Old Spock” who gets the last laugh.
The ad’s a great showcase for Nimoy’s sense of humor, and even shows him singing his camp classic, “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.”

He may not have been the most talented singer, but Mr. Nimoy was a funny, warm and wonderful human being, and his presence on this earth will be missed.
