Kia Enjoys Record March Sales
Kia Motors America (KMA) just had its best March ever, selling a record 58,771 vehicles last month, good for an increase of 7.3% over the same period last year.
As usual, most of the damage was done by the Korean automaker’s three heavy hitters, the Optima (15,485 units sold), Soul (12,713), and all-new 2016 Sorento (10,842).
The new Sedona also had a good month, posting sales of 3,638 units and continuing the vehicle’s sales momentum.
Only 88 Kia K900s were sold in March, which is actually less than the 105 luxury sedans that KMA sold in March of 2014 (before LeBron James became the car’s official “luxury ambassador”). That’s not boding well for King James’ stats.
Other than that, though, the month of March was pretty kind to Kia.
“Our record-setting performance in March contributed to the company’s best-ever first quarter and despite difficult weather in some parts of the country, significant consumer traffic and the popularity of key vehicles like the Optima, Soul and all-new Sorento propelled Kia sales,” said Michael Sprague, KMA’s executive vice president of sales & marketing. “Today at the New York International Auto Show, the company will continue to enhance its product lineup with the global debut of the all-new, passionately designed and obsessively crafted 2016 Optima, which is scheduled to arrive in showrooms later this year.”
