Mustang Doc ‘A Faster Horse’ Debuts at Tribeca
If you are a fan of artistry, family dynamics, the endless human commitment to perfection, and delicious sushi, then you have no excuse not to pop on Netflix and spend some time watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi. The man behind the acclaimed 2011 documentary, director David Gelb, now focuses his lens on another quest for perfection: Dave Pericak’s aim to make the 2015 Ford Mustang “A Faster Horse.”
A Faster Horse, which premiered this past weekend at Tribeca, follows Pericak and the team at Flat Rock Assembly Plant as they attempt to overcome the financial crisis and create a Mustang that lives up to the brand’s 50-year heritage.

Per a summary of the film authored by Arthur Ryel-Lindsey:
Masterfully crafted with gorgeous cinematography throughout, A Faster Horse wonders aloud how an American icon can be adapted for changing times. Gelb cuts in a rigorous, high-energy look at the history of Ford and the emotional connection many have to the definitive muscle car—a chassis cool enough for Steve McQueen—moving the film beyond a car lover’s documentary to a resonant examination of American ingenuity, workmanship, and resilience.
According to Freep, the film was shot primarily in 2014 with the full blessing of Ford. It is as-yet without a distributor, but given the quality of Gelb’s previous work and the subject matter, it’s not likely that this will remain the case for long. Stay tuned.
