Shanghai GM Announces Drive to Green Crowdfunding Platform
To celebrate World Environment Day, Shanghai GM and the China Environment Culture Promotion Association (CECPA) launched a crowdfunding platform in Beijing that aims to support preservation efforts.
Drive to Green is a one-of-a-kind program that combines crowdfunding ala Kickstarter and GoFundMe with the concept of environmental protection. Rather than supporting arts or individuals, the gathered funding goes to supporting various environmental programs across the country, including The No Shark Fin Project petition, Rendu Ocean & Coast Environmental Education Program, and Internet + Recycling program for scrap paper.
“Adopting a green lifestyle is becoming increasingly popular,” said CECPA Secretary-General Zhang Shaomin. “The Drive to Green environmental crowdfunding platform will attract public attention to green ideas and projects while increasing the diversity of funding sources to pave the way for long-term environmental projects.”
“By partnering with CECPA in the Drive to Green environmental crowdfunding platform, we will leverage the power of the Internet to create a driving force for environmental causes in China,” added Shanghai GM President Wang Yongqing. “This is in line with Shanghai GM’s belief that sustainable development requires cooperation between companies and society.”
The Drive to Green platform will coincide with Shanghai GM’s previously-announced 2016-2020 Drive to Green five-year plan, which promotes the production of greener products, greener manufacturing practices, and a greater sense of environmental responsibility.
