Ford Donates Seven Flex Utility Vehicles to DAV
Ford has announced that it will be donating seven of its Flex utility vehicles to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) as part of its near-century-long commitment to empowering veterans of the American military.
“Transportation and community service are two important areas where Ford excels,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “We are proud to be able to help these heroes of freedom get the critical services they need to make their lives better.”
The seven Flexes will join the DAV Transportation Network, which uses volunteer drivers to transport disabled vets to VA medical centers. The vehicles will wind up in the following locations: Little Rock, Arkansas; Iowa City, Iowa; Iron Mountain, Michigan; Omaha, Nebraska; Portland, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Seattle, Washington.
Since 1996, Ford has donated 199 vehicles to the DAV, amounting to an average of nearly 11 vehicles every year.
Ford Fund will also be sponsoring the DAV 5K walks taking place in Atlanta, Georgia; Cincinnati, Ohio; and San Diego, California, later this fall. The past spring, Ford sponsored the DAV Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass Village Colorado.
Ford has partnered with the DAV since 1922, when Henry Ford organized a 50-Model T-caravan to carry veterans to a DAV convention in San Francisco.
