The speculative purchase of a special edition Corvette for $500,000 is no Beanie Baby situation, though. The Corvette Z06 C7.R is a true limited-edition model: only 650 of them will be produced.
For that price, it’s actually cheaper to acquire a C7.R edition Corvette for life than it is to pay an NFL player with a year of experience the league minimum, and when you opt for the car, you’re investing in something faster, stronger, and more durable.

Only 500 will be sold in the states, and the one recently auctioned by Barrett Jackson is the only one that will have the all-important inaugural VIN #001.
General Motors donated the vehicle to the auction, and the half-million dollars in proceeds from the sale will benefit Detroit’s College of Creative Studies, an art school that also offers courses in car design.
Chevrolet calls the Corvette Z06 C7.R a “road-going, track-capable homage to the Corvette Racing C7.R racecars.” With its 650 horsepower V8 engine, it certainly seems like a fitting tribute.
