Nissan-Renault Alliance to Provide All-Electric Fleet to UN Climate Conference
When a large group of delegates gets together to discuss the climate, there will necessarily be a large fleet of vehicles to haul all of them around. So, after the Renault-Nissan Alliance was named the official passenger-car provider for the United Nations’ upcoming 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) climate conference, the Alliance decided to get in the spirit of eco-friendliness, providing a 200-car fleet of all-electric vehicles to shuttle diplomats from place to place.
Altogether, the electric vehicles are expected to cover over 400,000 km over the course of the 12-day event, all while emitting exactly zero exhaust. This will be a large endorsement of the Alliance’s vehicles, and electric cars in general.
“Electric vehicles are a practical and affordable mode of transportation,” said Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. “At the same time, they offer a solution for drastically reducing tailpipe CO2 emissions. They also reduce regulated exhaust pollutants, helping us to improve the air quality in our cities. Together, the public and private sectors can accelerate the transition to a zero-emission society.”
The fleet will be a mix of Renault ZOE subcompact cars, Nissan LEAF compact cars, and Nissan e-NV200 vans, each driven by a team of professional drivers and volunteers from Renault and Nissan. Hopefully, the 20,000 UN delegates that will be using the vehicles will go away with a favorable impression of zero-emission vehicles.
