Seven of Nissan’s most popular vehicle options will include an advanced safety technology as a standard feature for model year 2018.
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), a safety technology that “helps avoid or reduce the severity of potential frontal collisions,” will come standard on a projected one million vehicles sold in the U.S., according to Nissan.
The chosen models are the Rogue/Rogue Sport, Altima, Murano, Pathfinder, Maxima, LEAF, and Sentra (manual transmission-equipped and all NISMO versions are excluded). Select 2018 Armada models will also benefit from AEB as a standard feature.
“AEB (previously known as Forward Emergency Braking) uses radar technology to monitor a vehicle’s proximity to the vehicle ahead, giving the driver audible and visual display warnings to help the driver reduce the vehicle’s speed if a potential frontal collision is detected. If the driver fails to respond, the AEB system can apply the brakes, helping the driver to avoid the collision or reduce the speed of impact if it is unavoidable,” reports Nissan.
The safety technology of AEB fits under Nissan’s Intelligent Safety Shield Technologies. According to Nissan, additional available intelligent safety and driver assistance systems include Intelligent Lane Intervention (I-LI), Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA), Intelligent Around View Monitor (I-AVM), Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention (I-BSI), and Intelligent Distance Control (I-DC).
“The big news here is that we’re making AEB standard across all grades of our best-selling models,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “This increased AEB availability is part of our ongoing commitment to help reduce fatalities while realizing our comprehensive vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”
By offering AEB as a standard feature on one million U.S. vehicles, Nissan is already making 2018 a record-breaking year, because it “more than doubles the number of AEB-equipped Nissan vehicles versus the 2017 model year.”
