Airbrushed Star Wars Corvette Fails to Sell on eBay
“She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid.”
Those immortal words of Millennium Falcon pilot Han Solo could easily be applied to this awesome Star Wars-themed 1974 Chevy Corvette, which was recently listed on eBay by a seller with the user name “easternvette.”
Back in 1977, the car was lovingly airbrushed by (now-deceased) Uniontown, Pennsylvania man Rusty Fecek, who freestyled the space opera imagery onto the car’s body panels using candy apples, pearl, purples, silvers, reds, blues, yellows, and many other colors. Fecek spent over 1,000 hours turning his C3 into a shrine to the blockbuster sci-fi epic Star Wars (which proved eerily prophetic when Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hammill went on to star in MGM’s Corvette Summer one year later).
After Fecek died, the car sat idle in his daughter’s garage for 15 years, before being sold to a new owner who got it up and running again. It has only 29,007 miles on its 350 cubic inch V8 engine, though the interior has some wear and tear.
“The car runs and drives with a slight exhaust leak,” writes easternvette. “It could use a tune up and some love, but runs with no issues.”
Sadly, the force was not with any of the 72 people who bid on the “1974 Chevrolet Corvette Star Wars” listing, all of whom failed to reach the reserve. The highest bid was $10,300.
We suppose the Corvette’s owners could try again to sell it, but if so, they need to really commit this time—do or do not, there is no try.
