August Ford Sales Steady; Fusion, Explorer See Record Sales
Ford has released its monthly sales figures and revealed that both the Fusion and Escape posted best-ever figures for August. In addition, Explorer enjoyed the best sales it has seen in 10 years and the F-Series notched its sixth straight month of 60,000+ units sold.
All told, Ford moved 222,174 vehicles in the month, good for a marginal 0.4 percent year-over-year increase but also just enough for the best August Ford sales mark in eight years. Ford-badged vehicles accounted for 214,028 of these sales.
“Both Fusion and Escape set records in August, each continuing on a strong pace toward 2014 being a best-ever sales year,” said John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “It also was another solid month for F-Series, which again topped 60,000 sales and maintained its lead as the best-selling pickup in the U.S.”
The Fusion accounted for 29,452 units in August, good for a 19.5 percent year-over-year increase and bringing the model’s YtD total to 218,892 (up 6.1 percent).
The Escape added 28,996 vehicles, an 8.5 percent increase over sales in August 2013. Explorer notched 17,748 sales and a 25.4 percent year-over-year increase in posting its best August sales since 2004.
Other winners in August Ford sales figures include the Focus, which was up 8.4 percent with 22,079 units sold; the C-MAX, up 15.5 percent with 3,501 vehicles sold; and the new Transit, which added 1,099 sales to its total in its second full month of sales.
The Mustang, only a few short months away from the release of the next-generation 2015 model, was steady with 5,878 sold.
