BMW and Louis Vuitton to Create i8-Inspired Luggage
Are you planning on getting a brand-new BMW i8 when they hit the market later this year? Perhaps you’re already thinking if I ever want to go road-tripping in my $136,000 hybrid sports car, I’m going to need to pack my things in something a little less drab than the fare at Target. If you are, like, the one person who has had that exact thought process, fear not! BMW and Louis Vuitton are teaming up to produce a line of luggage tailor-made to match the car that will change the way the world looks at plug-in hybrids.
“BMW and Louis Vuitton share both a profound appreciation of tradition and a commitment to constant further development,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design, in a statement. “The use of CFRP in the revolutionary BMW i8 sports car is indicative of an intelligent lightweight construction philosophy. And Louis Vuitton has demonstrated a similar belief in innovation, aesthetics and lightweight design in creating an exclusive luggage collection tailored perfectly to the new BMW i8.”
The bags will be inspired by the sleek black sports car in that they will also be constituted of carbon fiber. The lightweight material will be used by Louis Vuitton to create a special textile that is durable and fashionable.
There will be four different styles of bag: the Weekender GM i8, Garment Bag i8, Business Case i8, Weekender i8. Each individual piece is made specifically to fit perfectly and simultaneously in the vehicle. The BMW and Louis Vuitton collaborations will be available upon request at the Munich, Milan, London, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, New York, and Los Angeles LV locations starting on April 1.
