As we’ve covered before, China loves Buick. That’s why the Chinese market will be getting the first taste of the new, updated 2020 Buick Regal. Here’s what’s new on this stately sedan.

Updates to expect

The model received some updates to its front end. Notably, its headlights now sport a little divot on the outer edge. It also receives a redesigned, mesh-pattern grille that goes a little lighter on the chrome accents, and a facelifted front fascia. The Buick Regal’s new face has more aggressively styled intake vents, along with a horizontal row of daytime-running LED light. From the back, you’ll spy its new parallelogram-shaped exhaust outlets.

Under the hood, the 2020 Regal sedan will wave goodbye to its turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and welcome a new turbocharged 1.3-liter mill. We don’t have any specs regarding the new engine, but the outgoing powerplant put out 168 horses alongside 185 lb-ft of torque. Hopefully, we’ll see something comparable. The 2020 Regal will retain its available 2.0-liter turbo-four, which delivers more kick, clocking in at 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Aside from all this, the Regal should also retain its nine-speed automatic, although it hasn’t been officially confirmed.

What about the US?

Stateside, we only receive the Buick Regal Sportback and the Buick Regal TourX. The sedan model is only sold in China. The European version of the TourX, called the Country Tourer, is set to receive a similar batch of updates. Therefore, it’s entirely possible that we’ll see similar styling changes on future models of the Sportback and TourX.
