When you envision an off-road vehicle, you probably don’t picture a Chevy Camaro. Nevertheless, the Chevy Camaro Rock Bouncer and its brilliant creators are ready to bust some well-worn stereotypes.

Rock Bouncers are off-road-only vehicles that are engineered to climb steep cliffs — and they often end up bouncing, tumbling and rolling in the process.

Whose idea was this?

Although the Chevy Camaro Rock Bouncer was built by the Coleworx Rock Racing Factory, it was the brainchild of car enthusiast Mark Phillips. Coleworx labored eight or nine years to create the Rock Bouncer, sparing no expense to create a machine that was functional, safe, and unmistakably unique.

Although the Rock Bouncer is equipped for rugged adventures, Phillips wasn’t focused on building a bouncer — he just wanted the “Most extreme, hardcore, trail-rated vehicle” that Coleworx had ever built. That said, he wanted to put his own creative twist on the project by theming it on an older generation of tough, sporty vehicles.

About the Rock Bouncer Camaro

This one-of-a-kind vehicle was based on a 1969 Chevy Camaro named Yo Daddy, as proudly displayed on its vanity plate. Everything about the original Camaro needed to be custom made, or cut to fit. For instance, the car’s grille, headlights, and bezels were tailor made for the project, while the classic Camaro’s bumper was cut to fit.

Coleworx overlooked no detail in this labor of love — even the Rock Bouncer’s dashboard was based upon the Camaro’s aesthetics, while the tweed fabric on the doors hearkens back to vintage racecars.

Even more impressively, it’s packing an 11.4-liter Merlin engine, which delivers 975 horsepower at around 8,000 rpms — and that’s on straight pump gas. It channels all of that power through Turbo 400 transmission, and it can even split the power between the front and rear Dana 80 Steering Axles, for front and rear steering capabilities.
