Chevrolet introduced its new lineup of Class 4, 5, and 6 Silverado chassis cab trucks Wednesday at The Work Truck Show 2018 in Indianapolis.
“Chevy’s designers and engineers were obsessed with making this Silverado the most customer-focused medium duty truck of any major competitor,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet. “By customer-focused, I mean work-ready trucks that are easy to upfit, easy to drive, easy to service, and easy to own.”
The Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD were designed with one-piece frame rails, unobstructed top sections, and multiple Cab-to-Axle frame length options. These features will allow the trucks to be more easily specialized with freight boxes, dump bodies, and other commercial-use upfittings.

Each model incorporates a front-hinged “clamshell” hood that allows easier engine maintenance access. Hoods are optimized for visibility, and 50-degree wheel cuts improve handling. For an upgraded ride and reduced cabin noise, the new Silverados are equipped with available rear air suspension, inset doors, and tough huck bolts for clamping on the frame.
The three new Silverados will each be available in two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models. Their 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engines, with 350 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque, will be mated to Allison transmissions with a Power Take Off option.
Connectivity options for the new Silverado lineup include these options: OnStar, Commercial Link, built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless phone charging, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Production of the new Silverado models will start late this year.
The new Silverados are GM’s latest step toward growing its fleet lineup via Chevrolet. In 2017, GM Fleet gained nearly 1.4 percentage points of market share, selling 300,000 vehicles to government and commercial customers.
