Chevrolet surprised automotive enthusiasts in the Sunshine State recently when it introduced the Camaro ZL1 1LE at Daytona International Speedway, but the bowtie brand appears so dead set on making the sixth-generation Camaro a success that it went ahead and produced a GT4 spec version of the Camaro as well, making it General Motors’ very first GT customer car for the global market.

Chevrolet worked with Pratt & Miller to create the new Camaro GT4.R, which was built to GT4 spec, meaning it can compete in both the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge’s Grand Sport class and the Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS class, just to name a few of the many racing series where it’s eligible for competition.
Powering the Camaro GT4.R is a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine featuring a dry-sump system. This gigantic motor works with a six-speed sequential Xtrac transmission to send power to the rear wheels. Adding to the car’s performance capabilities are high-performance Brembo brakes, dynamic spool-valve dampers, a limited-slip Xtrac differential, and adjustable traction control.

The new Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R is scheduled to make its debut at the upcoming Pirelli World Challenge event in St. Petersburg, Florida. Blackdog Speed Shop plans to enter two Camaro GT4.R racecars in the competition. Those cars will be driven by Tony Gaples and Lawson Aschenback.
The Camaro GT4.R will also be racing in the Circuit of the Americas this May in Austin, Texas. This will mark the GT4.R’s debut in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge’s GS class.
“The Camaro GT4.R is a true racing customer car that Chevrolet is proud to support,” said Shawn Meagher, Chevrolet’s Program Manager for the Camaro GT4.R. “Together with our Chevrolet Racing organization and our partner teams, we look forward to developing this into one of top GT programs in global motorsports.”
