Chevy Sells 3 Millionth Cruze in August
The Bowtie brand has hit another milestone: the 3 millionth Cruze was sold last month. But that’s not the only impressive stat for the Chevy Cruze. General Motors also threw out these numbers to consider: the Cruze is built at 11 plants to be sold in 118 countries, and has racked up 88 awards. Impressive, eh?
The 3 millionth Cruze was sold only 16 months after the Cruze hit its 2 million marker. Currently, China is the Cruze’s biggest market, with the U.S. in a close second. Other top markets for the Chevy Cruze include Russia, Brazil, and Canada.
“The Cruze is an extremely adaptable car that can cater to the demands of nearly every market in the world,” said Alan Batey, GM executive vice president of Global Chevrolet. “It is a testament to Chevrolet’s global focus and capabilities to offer a car that is so highly regarded in so many places.”
Michelle Krebs, senior analyst for AutoTrader.com, added, “Small car sales around the world have been growing exponentially as emerging markets, in Asia and South America, increase car ownership while mature markets, like the U.S., downsize for fuel economy. Small cars like the Cruze are driving sales globally and will continue to do so.”
Making the Cruze more versatile for its numerous markets are its three different body styles. The Cruze is offered as a four-door sedan, a five-door hatchback, and a station wagon. The Cruze is also offered with five various engines: 1.4-, 1.6-, and 1.8-liter gas engines and 1.7- and 2.0-liter diesel engines.
“The cost of energy is going to be an issue for a long time and in most markets that’s a big consideration,” explained Joe Phillippi of AutoTrends Consulting in Andover, N.J. “If you can offer someone very affordable, high quality transportation at an affordable price with a substantial package of safety equipment, that’s a big plus.”
New for the 2015 model here in the U.S. are OnStar with 4G LTE, Siri Eyes Free integration, and an available 2.0-liter turbocharged clean diesel engine, which takes drivers 717 miles on just on tank.
