DOE Confirms 2015 Corvette Z06 Fuel Economy
The US Department of Energy (DOE) has posted the 2015 Corvette Z06 fuel economy figures on its website. The performance-infused Corvette manages 23 mpg on the highway and 13 mpg in the city, for a combined fuel economy rating of 16 mpg.
The decent fuel economy of the 2015 Corvette Z06 is thanks in part to General Motors’ all-new eight-speed transmission: the Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed transmission, to be exact. This gearbox originally appeared on the 2015 Corvette Stingray, but GM has extended it to various models in the Chevy, Cadillac, and GMC lineups.
Corvette Z06 models that feature the seven-speed transmission were not yet listed on the DOE’s site, but GM Authority predicts an improvement of 1 mpg, just like on the seven-speed Stingrays, or at least the exact same numbers on the manually-shifted models.
It’s not just the transmissions that are responsible for the 2015 Corvette Z06 fuel economy numbers. The Z06 also benefits from Active Fuel Management, continuously variable valve timing, and direct injection.
