Automakers love to boast about performance figures in their new vehicles, but they are really put to test on the racetrack. The pinnacle of racing in America is NASCAR, and Ford recently claimed the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series Manufacturers’ Championship, which was decided at the final race of the season.

Heading into the coincidentally-named Ford EcoBoost 300, the Dearborn, MI automaker trailed Toyota by two points and needed a victory to secure its second Manufacturers’ Championship in the last three years. Ford got the win thanks to Brad Keselowski’s historic climb from 10th to first place in the final five laps of the race.
“That was an amazing performance by Brad and the entire Penske team to make this happen. What an amazingly close battle it was today,” said Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing, in a press release. “To watch Brad come from that far back in the pack to clinch the manufacturers’ championship was just amazing. I couldn’t be more proud of everyone that helped Ford get to this moment tonight.”
The victory marked Ford’s fourth overall NASCAR Nationwide Series Manufacturers’ Championship. Do you think the automaker will be able secure its fifth next year? Let us know in the comments below.
